I work as a Producer on the Times News series News Explained, where we create video explainers in 3-5 minutes on particular topics. I work closely with the in-vision journalists to create a story arc through scripting a narrative, which then helps the video flow. I then source footage from a variety of newswires to create the finished product, usually within 2-3 working days, as to keep up to ever-changing current affairs.
When working for the news desk at The Times, I edit news video packages from various newswires for the online version of The Times, and previously it's 1M+ subscriber YouTube channel, Times News. This includes creating a report package with footage from a variety of agencies, and ensuring they are relevant to the reports curated by our journalists .
The Times' video team also produce short-form documentaries and explainers on the feature-length YouTube channel, Times Originals. I work as an Assistant Producer, regularly researching topics, fair dealing news clips and searching for footage on a variety of different topics, supporting the dedicated team of Originals producers.
During the 2023 local elections, I was selected as a local fixer to be on location at the count in Hartlepool. Sky News sent me the kit to provide a livestream of the counting hall, a local leisure centre, and I broadcast live shots of the count throughout the night. I set up the iPhone, tripod and microphones provided and had a LiveU link to the Sky News gallery. I was in constant contact with the team, notifying them of the election results announcement, which was broadcast live during the programme.
I extended and adapted my videography skills through student media whilst at university. I regularly filmed interviews with high-profile people and attended events, working specifically as the Head of News at the student television station in my first year. Below are examples of some of my videography highlights whilst at Fuse TV. You can see more of my work from my time there on my Presenting page.
